I need help to identify this bird?
I was just out in my back yard and I saw a strange looking bird. It was built like a grouse or a pheasant. It looked like it had some orange around the eyes. It had a bright red "V" marking on the back of it's head and a black "V" marking on it's chest. It looked kind of gray with black specks in it's wings. It was on the ground using it's beak to dig. Any idea on what type of bird it was?

I live in Virginia Beach, VA
It did look a like a Yellow-shafted Flicker. It had that bright red v marking on the back of it's head. He was also kind of plump. Like he hadn't missed a meal.
