I craft gourds, and want to put them in a consignment gift store. What are the do's & don'ts?
I've done craft fairs, but never did any thing on consignment. What should I be aware of? How do I make sure I will get paid? How do I price my items to get the best deal? How long should I leave items in the gift shop? Rotate items? Any other info that will give me an idea on how to deal with the shop owner, and protect my produce is appreciated.
Keep in mind that the consignment shop is in business to make a profit as well. They will add their price on top of yours, so you don't want to set your price too high. Consignment shop are generally honest. Find one that has been around for a while. Also keep in mind that most people go to consignment shops for quality used clothing and accessories. Speaking from personal experience, I'm not really sure how a craft would do unless the consignment shop is designed specifically for crafts. Visit the store often and see how much interest your craft has. Ask the owner. And trust them to be honest with you. They are in business to make money too, so that want items will sell. You might try eBay or find a buyer, perhaps a florist or gift shop that is willing to purchase them on a wholesale basis. Good luck in your venture.
