Do all types of parrots that are pets need their flight feathers cut off so they dont fly away?????
I would love to own a parrot, I have canary and zebra finch experience, but these types of birds are very small, and I used to let them fly around the house for exercise when I was a kid.How do you exercise a parrot if you bring it to the vet every so often to get its flying feathers cut off.... Sorry if I sound too much abrubt or too much to the point.
I would just make sure that your windows are all shut( hope you have air conditioning) and let him fly around in your house a few times. Even though birds get their wings clipped, doesn't mean they can't fly at all, they can still fly close to the ground for a short period of time. It is important they they do exercise their wings. Maybe even get a pirch for on top of his cage and have alot of toys. I have a quaker and I don't clip her wings. Shw flys around once and a while and once and a while she just flaps her wings while standing there. We never have windows open, so I;m not worried about her flying out the window. Parrots require more attention than a canary or a fench also. If you were going to get a parrot for the first time I would suggest a smaller one like a quaker parrot, nanday, or a sun conure (sun conures are very pretty...they have orange..yellow...green...red...and sometimes blue on them) I have a quaker and she never bites! My 2 kids even play with her and she has never been mean to them iether. I would suggest getting a younger parrot. That way you could work with it and teach it to talk...ect
