Thyroid Test: 72 hours of no seafood, sliced white bread or salt?
I started 72 hours on Thursday at 1am and the 72 hour period needs to end at 11am on Monday. The doctor's office didn't give me any other instruction aside from no seafood, sliced white bread or salt. With the disclaimer that these are foods high in iodine. So, I have avoided salt, but then I researched my test and now see it is the iodine not the salt or sodium that affects the test. Prior to looking up the test, I had looked up milk and saw there was no salt, but then after I realized the iodine significance, I went back and looked up milk again and saw there is possible to high levels of iodine in it. So, today I've had yogurt with granola, 2 lattes and a two or three french fries with no salt, but might possibly have been cooked in salt <- this was all by 7:30pm. I am getting totally confused with this no salt, foods low in iodine thing. Did I just mess up being able to take my test? Thanks in advance...
No more than you ate, your probably alright. Your right the idea is no iodine. I was told 2 weeks, I had to go without thyroid medicine, salt, all canned food, (as it contains salt), prepackaged meat, lunch meat, deli meat, mayo, all seafood, all baked good (they all contain salt). Heck darn salt was on the label for everything!! I was told to go without dairy products also or anything with calcium, milk yogart, cheese, ice cream also. I had to cheat once in a while, i ate a few bites of chocolate, & just HAD to have a few chips one night & I did fine.
