how can i make my own turkey tail feather mount?
i dont feel like buying one and i was wondering if i can just make one, but what shold i make it out of and how. thanks! answer if you can
i said a mount for the feathers not how to fix the feathers. i shot a turkey last season and i want to mount the feathers

Well, obviously you make them from the tail of a turkey.
You skin the rump section off with the fan. Scrap away as much fat and muscle as possible from the skin. then tack it to a board, with the flesh side up. Cover it liberally with borax (20 mule team, not the kinds with soap flakes) and let it sit someplace cool and dark for 24 hours. Then shake off the borax and cover it in a fresh layer of borax, letting it sit for 2-4 weeks this time. That's all there is to it.
Added: Most of the ones I've seen are just dried on the skin. Then the person uses strait pins to hang them on the wall. I have seen a few people take a nice piece of hard wood, cut it in any kind of shape desired, sand it up very nice, and give it many coats of laquor, then mout the tail on that. I suppose a person could also take and mount it on some really heavy felt like they do with some animal skins and then cut the felt, leaving a nice reveal edge around the perimitter of the tail. If I had the money, I'd like a full skin mount of a big tom. As it stands I just eat them and save some of the feathers for fly tying.
